Starrin’…Loretta Padgett!

by Rachell Elaine Jackson

Seventh-grader Loretta Padgett thought being the class clown was funny—until it wasn’t.  If it had not been for Suellen, 12 year-old Loretta’s BFF, she might never have gotten the role of Toto the dog in the school’s spring play. Being cast in that role, though—or any role–was not of great importance to her. But Suellen’s friendship was. Loretta’s earlier attempt at acting had ended in a total disaster that not only shook her confidence in performing, but in herself as well. Find out more and read an excerpt here

Rachell Elaine Jackson

is the author of middle grade books and a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. As a college undergraduate, Rachell attended the University of Memphis and majored in Speech and Drama with a minor in English. She received her M.A. in Theatre and TV, and a Ph.D. in Communications and Theatre. In each case, writing was a major emphasis for her. “My favorite books are any books I can get my hands on. Like most writers, I was an avid reader from day one. I enjoy thrillers, romances, picture books (Yes, picture books), and most of all middle grade books. It may sound strange that an adult would favor that age group, but I do--which, of course, is also the reason I love to write for that readership. I'm especially fond of characters who are a little silly but have a serious side. Oh--wait. Maybe that's the reason I create those kinds of characters.”

Charming, realistic, funny

and positive!

“This story has it all…tons of funny dialogue, fully drawn characters, a realistic story for middle school, and most importantly a positive and moral ending. If you have a middle school child or student, you should get this book.” Izusnaissance
