Starrin’…Loretta Padgett!

by Rachell Elaine Jackson

If it had not been for Suellen, 12 year-old Loretta’s BFF, she might never have gotten the role of Toto the dog in the school’s spring play. Being cast in that role, though—or any role–was not of great importance to her. But Suellen’s friendship was. Loretta’s earlier attempt at acting had ended in a total disaster that not only shook her confidence in performing, but in herself as well. It also made her the victim of teasing and taunting from the other students. She reacted by going on the offensive, by becoming a misfit, a goof- off, a class clown. But she wasn’t just any class clown; she was the most outrageous one anybody could imagine! Soon she began to enjoy her new rebellious attitude. Her principal and teachers in the New Orleans middle school barely tolerated her antics though many students thought them hysterically funny. But Suellen’s patience soon ran out and their friendship began to slip away. In desperation, Suellen issued a final challenge to her, a challenge that would define her and their friendship for the future. Starrin’…Loretta Padgett! Copyright 2014 by Rachell Elaine Jackson

A fun vacation book!

“I read half of this book on my flight while going on vacation. I got so involved with “Retta” that I couldn’t wait until the flight home so I finished it the next day. I related very much to her feelings! It was a very endearing story and I would recommend it for young teen girls.” NJB
